Passion Won Barack Obama the Presidential Election
"The cure for boredom is not diversion; it is to find some work to do; it's to find something to care about." -John Gardner
Barack Obama won the election for many reasons. One trait that came through each time I heard him speak was his passion for change. I've known many halfhearted people, but I don't hang out with them. They are tired, weary people. Their energy levels are dangerously low. Consequently, they drain energy from all available sources, including you and me. On the other hand, people who are passionate are so vivacious, enthusiastic, and full of life. Their energy is a positive force. When I am with them, my torch burns brighter. Interestingly, my passionate friends are also my most successful friends. Hmmm...
Whatever you do, just do it with passion. We've all been given the gift to live a passionate life! Celebrate your life everyday! I was an adult before I realized that life is not a dress rehearsal - this is it! Why do anything without passion?
The most successful and highest paid people are the great communicators. Orators who inspire, motivate and challenge us to get beyond our comfort. One common trait that the best public speakers of all time possess is Passion. Barack Obama won the presidency not by just being a smooth talker but ultimately what people felt from him was his passion for change.
When I am fully engaged, my creativity peaks. Synchronicity abounds. Depression is chased away. Production skyrockets. Quality improves. Time flies. Sensitivity heightens. And I am happiest. Here is an exercise I invite you to try. Think about your most "passionate" friend? Interview her on this subject to gain insight and motivation.
I love this sentiment from Joan Baez:
"You don't get to choose how you're going to die, or when. You can only decide how you are going to live, now." BE PASSIONATE
